Bottom Line: Serving the church isn’t about serving an organization. It isn’t an option but an obligation.

1 Peter 4:8-9 NIV
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Faith community is not about me.

1 Peter 4:10 NIV
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

I already have something to offer.

1 Peter 4:11 NIV
If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

When I serve others I’m really serving God.

START TALKING:
When have you volunteered or served for something that may have seemed to others like you were serving an organization or an institution, but you were really doing it for the people? Or when have you seen someone volunteer or serve for something that may have seemed to others like it was serving an organization or an institution, but it was really for the people?

START THINKING:
Read 1 Peter 4:8-11. How would you sum up these four verses in your own words?

How does understanding that the word "hospitality" really means "the love of strangers" change how you understand this verse and this passage?

START SHARING:
How do most people approach their church life in a way that really makes it about them rather than following the "it's not about me" principle?

Read Acts 20:35. How does this verse support the ideas we have learned from 1 Peter 4:8-11? When have you seen someone really live out this principle and the principle of serving others without grumbling?

START DOING:
What can you do to serve others this week in a way to stewards the grace God has given you?
What evening will you help with the new North Campus?
What volunteer teams or areas within our local church most intrigue you? Why?

START PRAYING:
Pray that God would raise up an army of volunteers to carry out the mission that He has called OneLife Church to?

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
