ANNOUNCEMENTS

40 Days of Prayer and Fasting
From August 18 to September 26, we’re inviting everyone to join us in prayer each day as we seek God for OneLife and the new season ahead. In addition to praying daily, we’re asking each person to choose at least one day during this time to participate in a true biblical fast on behalf of our church. We’ll have someone hosting the calendar to help get you signed up for the day you choose. We’ll also send you reminders, provide helpful resources, and walk with you every step of the way. Let’s believe together that every day will be covered in both prayer and fasting!

Everyone will meet, have a potluck dinner together, and experience what a typical Micro Church gathering will look & feel like. Childcare will be provided. Visit onelifeknox.com/mclaunch to register or mark the Micro Church box on your Connection Card.

Bottom Line: A Flame that dies has been neglected but a flame that thrives has been fueled.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT
This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

1. Don't miss the flame that is already burning.

2. Don't miss the flame that is already burning among us.

3. Fueling requires action.

4. Fear of the flame kills any future for the flame.

5. A thriving flame has power.

6. A thriving flame has love.

7. A thriving flame is steady.

START TALKING:
What is something that you have experienced in everyday life that has died or fizzled out when it was neglected? Maybe it was a plant like Rodney shared. Maybe it was interest in a hobby or new idea.

What have you experienced in everyday life that was the opposite - it thrived when you gave it attention and when you "worked it"?

START THINKING:

Read 2 Timothy 1:1-5. How many relationships do you see Timothy had in his past that "ignited" his flame of faith? Who were they? What do you think this shows us about the important role others play in our faith and that we should play in the faith and life of others?

Read 2 Timothy 1:6-7. Since the flame was already ignited, what was Timothy told to do with it? What do you think it means that Timothy is now responsible to "fan the flame" or, as other translations put it, "stir up the gift of God"?

If Timothy was responsible to "fan the flame" - and, therefore, we are now, too - why do you think so many people wait for someone or something else to stir them up, be it a pastor, a church, an event, etc., rather than taking responsibility for their own faith and to fuel or fan their own flame?

START SHARING:

The fact that Paul reminds Timothy of the flame of faith and of the Spirit that already exists within him and within his community and family is a reminder that we should pause to acknowledge what God has done and is already doing. In other words, don't miss the flame that is already burning among us!

So let's do that now. First, each person share how your faith was first ignited. When and how did you first experience the "flame", the "Gift of God?" Who was your Paul or Lois or Eunice that played a role in this for you?

Second, what is the "flame" that you see God has already ignited among us in our faith community called OneLife Church? What do we need to pause and acknowledge and celebrate so that we aren't tempted to get so future focused on what we want God to do that we miss what He is already doing?

Fueling the flame in our individual lives and in the life of our faith community requires action. A literal flame will die without constantly working on it and fueling it, and the same is true when it comes to faith! What actions have you experienced help to keep your personal flame of faith fueled and ignited? What happens when you don't make an intentional effort to do that?

What action have you seen fuels the flame among us in a corporate sense be it in our micro church or in the church as a whole? What role do each of us have to play in this? What have you seen can distract us from this and can cause this flame to be neglected?

START DOING:
What do you sense the Spirit is teaching you that you will you do this week to fan the flame of your personal faith?

What do you sense the Spirit is teaching you that you will you do this week to fan the flame that is among us at OneLife Church?

One way we can fan the flame personally and among us is throughout these 40 days of prayer and fasting. If you have already had a day of prayer and fasting, what did you experience God do in or through you? If you haven't yet, what do you hope is fanned in you? What are you wondering about or worried about or unsure of about fasting before you do it?

How might we see our shared flame in the church be fueled as we cover these six weeks in prayer in fasting? What can we be praying God will do among us as we do this?

START PRAYING:

Take what each person shared they will do in the previous section and turn it into prayer. Pray for each person to take action to fuel their flame and our flame. Pray for each person to not allow fear to snuff out what God wants to do in and through them - and in and through us - in the future. Pray for the next season for our church and that God will continue to lead us to opportunities to impact our communities and our city so that even more people may know Jesus, too!

MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
