OneLife Students, United Night - March 20th

Wednesday night, March 20th, our middle & high school students from both campuses will be coming together for a United Night. This will be a night of student led worship, a great message from our Student Director Matt, and a lot of fun for all our students at both campuses! It will take place at the North Campus at 6:30pm and we will wrap up at 8:15pm. Also, parents are invited to attend as well! For more information mark the OneLife Students box on the Connection Card.

Easter On Mission - March 22nd - 30th
Easter is right around the corner, and it’s an incredible time for you to live on mission in your neighborhood. From hosting neighborhood egg hunts, egg decorating, Easter basket decorating, block parties, or reverse egg hunts - there are tons of creative ways for you to engage your neighborhoods this Easter. Let us know all the details of your Easter on Mission event by filling out the form at onelifeknox.com/easteronmission.

Easter is Coming, March 31st - Time to Invite!

Did you know that Easter is one of the best and easiest times to invite people to come experience Jesus with you at your campus? More people come on Easter Sunday than any other Sunday of the year. Because of that, we are challenging every OneLifer to invite someone with them as a part of our “Easter on Mission!” So be on the lookout for people where you live, work, and play and let’s make this an unforgettable Easter!

2 Services at  North - 9 & 10:45am
2 Services at East - 9 & 10:45am

Baptism

If you’ve given your life to Jesus but haven’t gone public with your story through baptism then it’s time to take that step! Mark the baptism box on your Connection Card and we’ll help you get started.

Setting aside the physical in order to gain something more important in the spiritual is a reset button.

Matthew 6:16 NLT
16 “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.

Jesus expects me to fast so that I can reset with Him.

Fasting - deliberate abstinence from some form of physical gratification for a period of time to achieve a spiritual goal.

Matthew 6:16 NIV
16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

 Fasting humbles me before God.

Isaiah 58:3 NLT
‘We have fasted before you!’ they say. ‘Why aren’t you impressed? We have been very hard on ourselves, and you don’t even notice it!’“ I will tell you why!” I respond. “It’s because you are fasting to please yourselves. Even while you fast, you keep oppressing your workers.

Matthew 6:17-18 NIV
17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Fasting focuses me on God.

Matthew 6:18 NIV
18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Fasting brings results.

START TALKING
When have you set aside one thing in order to get something more important? When have you given up something you want for something you want even more?

START THINKING
Read Matthew 4:4. When Jesus was fasting, these were His words to Satan when Satan tried to get Jesus to stop fasting. What does this teach us about fasting? What does it teach us about how fasting focuses us on God?

Read Isaiah 58:3-6. What do these verses teach us about the difference between just not eating versus fasting? What does this teach us about the importance of the motivation we have when we fast?

START SHARING
Read Matthew 6:16-18. Jesus says, "When you fast..." twice in this passage. If He expects us to fast, why do most of us never do it? Is it because we've never been taught or it's too hard or something else? Why do you not think about fasting more often?
If you have fasted, share about what you deliberately gave us in the physical in order to gain something more important in the spiritual. How did it humble you before God? How did it focus you on Him?

Read James 4:10 in three different translations. Humility has been defined as "not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less." How do you think fasting accomplishes this?

Read Hebrews 12:2. How do you think fasting will help you focus on Jesus more?

 START DOING
Throughout the Bible, sometimes fasting was a way to take prayer to the next level and see God answer while other times it was an act of deeper worship and prayer simply to know God better. Read each of the passages below and identify the specific reason someone fasted or was told to fast and what purpose it accomplished:

Joel 2:12
Acts 14:43
Nehemiah 1:1-4
Ezra 8:21-23
Luke 2:36-37

Next week - the week before Easter - our church has been called to a week of prayer. What is something in the physical that you will deliberately give up in order to gain something more important in the spiritual? What will you intentionally do to allow this to humble you and focus you rather than simply not eat and go through the motions?

How can you use this time of fasting to focus you on your mission as a disciple maker and multiplier? How can you use this time to ask God to use you to make a difference in the lives of those around you?

START PRAYING
Each person in the microchurch share what you will fast and what you hope God will reveal to you throughout that experience. Then pray for each other to experience Jesus on a deeper level like never before.

MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
