Bottom Line: The Church is not a place, it’s a people
1 Corinthians 12:12-21 NLT
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part .If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
1. We are a people who need every unique part
1 Corinthians 12:29-31 NLT
Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NLT
If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NLT
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!
2. We are a people who love
3. We need God to Deliver us

START TALKING
This morning, we talked about how the church is not a place, it’s a people. We focused on how we are a people who need every unique part, we are a people who love, and we are a people with a purpose.
START THINKING
Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
What do you notice Paul is saying about the Body of Christ? What does this mean for us?
START SHARING
Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-21
Thinking about how we each have unique gifts, what is a unique gift you have? Have you ever felt like you weren’t good enough to share your gift? Why?
Read Ephesians 2:10
Our translation says Masterpiece others say handiwork - How does it make you feel knowing that you were uniquely created by God? How does this change the way you not only see yourself but see others?
Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Why do you think love is so important? Have there ever been times it has been hard for you to serve from a place of love? How have you overcome this in the past?
Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Knowing that love endures forever, how should this change the way we serve others? How will it change the way you serve?
START DOING
How can your life reflect the idea that the church is not a place, but a people?
How will you use your story and your changed life to make a difference in others to impact their eternity? Who will you love this week? WHO will you impact?
START PRAYING
Take a moment to pray for each person - that God will continue to shape our view of the Kingdom of God - that God will help us fall more in love with Jesus and the work he is doing in us. Pray that God gives us opportunity to impact others for eternity.

- Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
- What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
- How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
- How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
- Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
