Leave My Mark: Part 4 - No Empty Seats

August 14, 2022

Welcome to “I Love My Church Sunday!”
Today is “I Love My Church” Sunday. Everyone here will  get an “I Love My Church” t-shirt after the service in a brand new color for 2022! But more importantly, this is a day for you to get fired up for the role you play in leaving your mark where you live, work, and play. We’re glad you’re here!

“I Love My Campus” Work Days! - August 28 & 30
On Sunday, August 28 from 12-2pm & Tuesday, August 30 from 6-9pm, our campuses are getting some upgrades and we need your help! Our Elementary large group room is becoming a dual-purpose room serving Elementary on Sundays and OneLife Students on Wednesday nights. So it’s getting a facelift, and we need your help making it happen with painting, moving equipment, decorations and more! Plus, we’ve got several other projects around our campuses to get our buildings in top shape. To help, write “Work Days” on your Connection Card or visit onelifeknox.com/workdays. Food will be provided on August 28 & childcare will be provided on August 30.

The Tour - August 28
Stay after the service on Sunday, August 28  for a 15 minute meet ‘n greet that we call “The Tour.” We’ll have some light snacks and refreshments, take a tour around the facility, learn more about why we do many of the things we do, and - most importantly - give you a chance to meet some people! Just look for the sign that says “The Tour,” and if you have kids, they can remain in Kid City until The Tour is over.

MyOneLife - A 4-Week Small Group Experience, Starts September 4
If you’re newer to OneLife or have been attending for a while but haven’t gotten involved, then MyOneLife is your next step! It’s a 4-week small group experience where you’ll learn about the history, vision & values of our church, discover your personal mission and spiritual gifts, and have opportunities to get involved. MyOneLife takes place on Sunday mornings during the 10:45am service in the Meeting Room at each of our campuses starting on September 4. For more information, check the “MyOneLife” box on your Connection Card.

BOTTOM LINE: The price of the party was too high for empty seats.

Luke 14:16-17 NLT
16 Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. 17 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’

1. The preparation has already been made.

Luke 14:18-20 NLT
18 But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ 19 Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ 20 Another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’.

2. Rejection isn't toward me.

Luke 14:21-23 NLT
21 “The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ 22 After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ 23 So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.

3. The invitation is to a party not a club.

Luke 14:24 NLT
24 For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’”

4. The least expected may be the most likely to respond.

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:

Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
