SERMON NOTES & DISCUSSION
Identifying members is an inclusive development tool not an exclusive divisive tool.
Numbers 1:1 NLT
A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month of that year he said,
1. In between the prison land and promised land is opportunity.
2. Without a plan the in between is chaos.
Proverbs 29:18 KJV
Where there is no vision, the people perish...
Numbers 1:2-3 NLT
“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men twenty years old or older who are able to go to war.
Numbers 1:2 ESV
“Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel...
3. The whole community matters.
Numbers 26:2 NLT
“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their families. List all the men twenty years old or older who are able to go to war.”
4. The community develops more who are able to battle.
At OneLife, we want to identify and develop those who:
Experience Jesus
Give Jesus their best
Don't do life alone
Multiply like Jesus

Start Talking
When have you been part of a group or organization where the membership process was divisive rather than a development tool? Have you ever seen the membership process be one that develops people rather than divide?
Start Thinking
Read Numbers 1:1. The Israelites are in the "in between." They are no longer prisoners to slavery, but they also aren't in the promised land yet. What do you think are the challenges for them here? What do you think may have been chaotic about this time? Why do you think God wants to bring order and organization to them at this time?
Read Numbers 26:2. This is 38 years after God originally gives this plan. Why do you think God wanted them to do it again? How does this show that those who were not able to battle the first time had a chance to grow and develop to be identified the next time?
Start Sharing
When have you felt like you are in the "in between" on a personal, spiritual level? How does or did that season of waiting provide opportunity for you to grow and develop?
How do you experience each of these on a personal, daily basis and also in the context of your church community?
- Experience Jesus
- Give Jesus your best
- Don't do life alone
- Multiply like Jesus
Start Doing
Which of the four core steps in the previous question can you give the greatest attention to in your daily life? What will you do? Which can you give the greatest attention to in the context of your church community? What will you do?
What do you sense the Holy Spirit is telling you to do in light of this message or in general in your life? What are you going to do about it? How can we help you as a micro church to do that?
Start Praying
Pray for God to move each person toward the next steps they've been sensing throughout the discussion today. Ask God to use your Micro Church to make a powerful difference together.

MULTIPLICATION
Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
Who in your life do you think could be discipleable or open to spiritual/missional conversations?

WHAT'S NEXT?
Discuss the next step for your micro church. When will we gather again, and which purpose will it fulfill (missions, fellowship/care, growth, worship, multiplication)?
