MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:

Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
Who in your life do you think could be discipleable or open to spiritual/missional conversations?

SERMON NOTES

Bottom Line:
Accomplishing the mission requires defining the relationship.

The Church is invisible and visible, universal and local.

Ekklesia - a called out assembly.

1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT
27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27 BSB
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.

THE LOCAL CHURCH IS COMPARED TO...
A BODY.

1 Peter 5:1 NLT
1 And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you:

 1 Peter 5:2 NLT
2 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.

THE LOCAL CHURCH IS COMPARED TO...
A FLOCK.

1 Timothy 3:15 NIV

15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

THE LOCAL CHURCH IS COMPARED TO...
A FAMILY.

1 Corinthians 12:13 NLT

13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

A local church is an individual group of believers committed to each other and their shared mission.

A local church is an identifiable group of believers committed to each other and their shared mission.

A local church is an accountable group of believers committed to each other and their shared mission.

Start Talking

When have you experienced needing to define the relationship of who is committed or on the team in order for you to accomplish the goal or the mission?

When have you experienced not knowing who was committed or on the team, and how did that prevent you from accomplishing the goal or the mission?

Start Thinking

Read 1 Corinthians 12:27. How do the parts of a human body require commitment to each other and a shared mission? What happens if one of the parts becomes sick or doesn't do its job? How does this apply to a local church being called a body?

Read 1 Peter 5:1-2. What is specific to a flock that differentiates it from other flocks? What are the jobs of the shepherd and of the sheep? How are they committed to each other and a shared mission? How does this apply to a local church being called a flock?

Start Sharing

If you never define your relationship and formalize it with a local church, what will you miss out on? How will you not be truly part of the body? What will you miss out on and how will you be missed if you are not part of the flock? Or part of the family?

Why do you think people are weary of formal church membership? How will following the examples from the passages in this sermon ease those concerns? What do you think should be avoided to stay true to the examples given in God's word versus what religion or culture would require?

Start Doing

What would be evident or what would it look like for the believers of a local church and this micro church to be committed to each other rather than the institution or organization?

What would be evident or what would it look like for the believers of a local church and this micro church to be committed to our shared mission?
