MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:

Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
Who in your life do you think could be discipleable or open to spiritual/missional conversations?

SERMON NOTES

RADICAL:
Very different from the usual or traditional, extreme.

URGENCY: Importance calling for swift action, calling for immediate attention.

BOTTOM LINE: Radical urgency develops radical priorities.

John 4:27 NLT
27 Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but none of them had the nerve to ask, “What do you want with her?” or “Why are you talking to her?”

1. Urgency wipes out political and cultural differences.

John 4:31 NLT
31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.”

John 4:31-32 NLT
31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”

John 4:33 NLT
33 “Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.

John 4:34 NLT
34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.

2. Urgency finds purpose and motivation in the eternal, not the earthly.

John 4:35 NLT

35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.

John 4:36 NLT
36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike!

3. Radical doesn't wait for the "right" time. Urgency acts now.

MICRO CHURCH DISCUSSION

Start Talking

When have you had to take swift action or give immediate attention to something because it was urgent? Maybe it was something at your house, a project, health crisis in your family, or something just felt urgent.

Start Thinking

Read John 4:27. Why were the disciples shocked? What does this say about their lack of understanding about what was urgent to Jesus? How did Jesus' interaction with this woman display his radical urgency?

Read Luke 9:59-60, Matthew 10:11-14, and Mark 2:16-17. How do each of these passages show the principles of urgency that Jesus lived by and that he is teaching to you?

Start Sharing
In John 4, Jesus disregards the political and cultural norms that would have been expected and comfortable for him and his disciples. Let's be honest: what are the political and cultural norms for you that you are most comfortable with? How do these compete with the desire Jesus has for you to be radically urgent for the Gospel? When have you gotten uncomfortable by intentionally positioning yourself around people who are different than you for the sake of the Gospel like Jesus did in John 4?

Read John 4:31-34. What were the disciples urgent about, and what was Jesus urgent about? How are you most like the disciples in every day life? What are the things that are "normal" for us to be urgent about, and even expected to be urgent about by those around you?

When have you experienced someone being more like Jesus in this way, by being more urgent about doing the will of God and finishing His work rather than being urgent about what is normal and what most people are urgent about?

Start Doing

When you look at how you spend your time and how you spend your money, what are your top three priorities that show what is naturally most "urgent" to you? Reorienting priorities does NOT mean that those things are no longer important! It just means they are no longer MOST important. What will it take for you to be more urgent about the eternal than the earthly? What do you need to do this week to do that?

Who in your life is the "harvest" that could be ripe already rather than waiting for the right time? How can you be intentional to position yourself in their life like Jesus did in this story?

Start Praying
Take a moment for each person to pray out loud for the person sitting to your right in the micro church. Keep it simple! Just finish this sentence, "Jesus I pray for _______ as he/she tries to live with urgency like you this week." You can add a sentence or two if you'd like to pray for what they shared in the "Start Doing" section or the person/people they shared who could be their harvest. Micro church leaders then wrap up praying for the micro church to live with a radical urgency and radical priorities that will lead many to Jesus!
